Anna Maria Horner
Eclectic, bold and colourful fabrics
At Sew Fab we absolutely love when we receive a new delivery of Anna Maria Horner fabrics. Her daring, bold designs never disappoint, with clashes of colour, prints and florals all demonstrating her unique, eclectic style. Anna Maria grew up surrounded by creativity, with her dad’s painting on the walls and her mother’s creations hanging in the wardrobe. Her website describes a home full of colour and textiles that sparked her curiosity from a very young age. “Beds were warmed by the hand-loomed wool blankets sent by her grandmother from Greece. The busy bodies of her and her siblings were warmed by the beautiful hand-knits of their grandmother in Indiana. As a kid in the 70s, she passed up store-bought Barbie dresses and instead created them from her mother’s fabric scraps.” Her diverse career has spanned clothing design, opening her clothing and homewares store Handmaiden, working as an artist with regular gallery exhibits and fabric design projects. Anna Maria Horner has partnered with more than two dozen manufacturers to design homewares, gifts and textiles, has authored three sewing books and self-publishes a continuing collection of sewing, quilting and needlework patterns.
